Patient evaluation
A thorough history and full examination is vital for the assessment of all patients referred to the orthopaedic team.
This will be augmented by blood tests, x-rays and further imaging/specialist investigations.
X-rays should always include the joint above and below any fracture (to determine any extension of the fracture into the joint) and have at least 2 different images taken at 90 degrees from each other. Do not be afraid to ask for further x-rays (and perhaps go with the patient to the x-ray department to help out).
